Experience
I hold a bachelor's degree from the University of California, San Diego, in International Studies. I minored in French literature, spending a year as an undergraduate in Paris, France, where I studied political science. After earning my degree, I became certified as an English as a second language (ESL) instructor and moved to Japan for two years to teach English to Japanese students. During that time, I developed an appreciation for tutoring students in foreign language.After returning to San Diego, I began tutoring refugee students, through the International Rescue Committee, in several subjects, including the English language. I tutor English, French, ESL, reading, writing, literature, grammar and mechanics, and SAT test preparation.My tutoring philosophy includes helping students become vested in the subject at hand by showing them how it relates to their lives. I want them to learn to value their education and experiences. I create a tailored plan to follow that includes the student's specific goals. When students reach these goals, they feel a sense of accomplishment that encourages them to continue learning. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy traveling, hiking, practicing yoga, writing, and photography. I am also a coffee lover!
